The county pages have been available for some time, but many were just stubs with a few resource links. “I’m really excited to see the site get closer to what I had envisioned the South Carolina Genealogy site could be.” according to Avery Parker, webmaster of South Carolina Genealogy. “I know there is a lot more information we can collect on each county, but this is a real milestone to have at least a little detail on each counties history and what I feel like is a good assortment of links and information for each one. These kinds of resources make online genealogy research that much easier because if you’re looking for ancestors in Greenville County for instance, there’s a page that has a background sketch and links to maybe 75% of the resources that you might want to look for. We still have a lot of information to fill in though.”

South Carolina Genealogy is also asking for help in finding those helpful resources, they’ve recently made it easier for individuals to submit links for the various county pages. This involvement of the users is essential to helping the site grow as it enlists every user in the search for good resource information to include. It also helps family history researchers to help each other out by providing some of their good finds online with their peers.

SouthCarolinaGenealogy.org was launched in October 2005 and provides genealogy researchers a destination for genealogy and history related content specific to South Carolina. Resources are indexed by County and in most cases, brief histories are given to add context. These county profile and resource pages are essential to the main goal of the South Carolina Genealogy site which is to help family researchers find useful resources related to South Carolina Genealogy. For more information or to look at the finished county profile and resource pages visit http://www.southcarolinagenealogy.org

The request opens up the opportunity for anyone with an interest in South Carolina Genealogy and a story to tell to get their story online. “There are so many people with rich family histories and with amazing narratives, I wanted to open the site up so that there would be the possibility that they could tell some of those stories.” according to Avery Parker, webmaster of South Carolina Genealogy. “It’s not just about the family narratives, but could also be on any other topic that might be of interest to the Family Historian researching South Carolina. It might be a good way for some to get their feet wet with writing for a blog, or just writing articles online”

The articles posted at the South Carolina Genealogy Directory might be useful for other site operators seeking a new audience for showing their writing style as well as getting a link back to their site. This can be very beneficial for website search engine rankings. It is currently free to post an article in the South Carolina Genealogy Directory, although reciprocal links are greatly appreciated.

The South Carolina Genealogy site has started soliciting article submissions for the blog as well as the directory and is asking for user input on the links contained in the separately announced county detail pages. The articles selected for the blog will be reviewed for relevance and in some cases it might be suggested that they fit in better with the Directory, but all submissions will be reviewed.

Online Publishing is making it possible for most anyone that is interested in writing to find an audience and these new requests for articles is a great opportunity that local historians have to find a very focused audience. Persons interested in submitting an article need only go to the SouthCarolinaGenealogy.org website and click to visit the Contact Us page and fill in the form. If they’re interested in submitting an article for the directory, they can just visit Directory.SouthCarolinaGenealogy.org and follow the links for Submitting an article there.

SouthCarolinaGenealogy.org was launched in October 2005 and provides genealogy researchers a destination for genealogy and history related content specific to South Carolina. Resources are indexed by County and in most cases, brief histories are given to add context. The new article submssion requests helps individual genealogists to find one more avenue to get their articles in front of viewers interested in South Carolina Genealogy and gives site owners a good place to be introduced to a new audience.

SouthCarolinaGenealogy.org today announced the full launch of their new forum. The newly launched service gives genealogists interested in South Carolina research more choices in posting queries in researching their ancestors. The full launch signifies that there are now forums for both statewide genealogy queries and county family history query posting. There is now a forum for each and every county in the state of South Carolina.

The new forum allows site visitors to post free queries for information on ancestors that they are researching. “I know as I have worked on my genealogy it sometimes helps to find others that are looking for the same ancestors as you are.” according to Avery Parker, webmaster of South Carolina Genealogy. “I remember looking for any and every opportunity to post a query on some particularly hard to find ancestors. I am still a little surprised that I get responses in some cases 5, 6 years or longer after my original query. What’s exciting about this is that we’re giving another site specific to South Carolina that family history researchers can use to ask for information, or connect with long lost relatives.”

Given the nature of the internet, questions about ancestors posted in online forums can remain online for years. This fact, combined with power of search engines makes it easier than ever for family history researchers to find others looking for the same families that they are. The South Carolina Genealogy Forum is expected to add forums to meet the needs of the members. Already, one township in South Carolina has it’s own forum, that’s St. Andrews township, in the Charleston, SC area.

SouthCarolinaGenealogy.org was launched in October 2005 and provides genealogy researchers a destination for genealogy and history related content specific to South Carolina. Resources are indexed by County and in most cases, brief histories are given to add context. The forum launch is in line with the goals of increasing the amount of information available to users and increasing the opportunities family history researchers have to post their queries and their personal websites. For more information or to take advantage of these new forums visit http://www.southcarolinagenealogy.org or visit the forums directly at http://forums.southcarolinagenealogy.org
