Union District-Era Jurisdiction Map

Union County district-era research map (guidance—verify series at SCDAH / county inventories).
- Pre-1785 / colonial: Land title often in central Charles Town / Secretary series (statewide recording trap)—not only a local courthouse. See SCDAH colonial plats/grants.
- 1769 judicial districts: Beaufort, Camden, Charles Town, Cheraws, Georgetown, Ninety-Six, Orangeburg organize superior courts—labels may predate modern county names.
- ~1785 county courts: Many modern counties take clearer local court identity (including Union if formed then). Equity/probate/deeds densify under county names gradually.
- ~1800 reorganization: District boundaries and names shift (e.g., Barnwell, Pendleton lineages). Confirm which label held equity that year.
- 1868 constitution: Modern county government framework; late counties still redirect earlier events to parents.
