Battle of Kings Mountain (1780)
A decisive Patriot militia victory on the York County / North Carolina border.
The Battle of Kings Mountain (October 7, 1780) pitted Patriot militia against Loyalist forces on a ridge along the modern South Carolina–North Carolina line. It is often cited as a turning point in the Southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War.
Because fighters came from both Carolinas and beyond, pension files and compiled service records may list Kings Mountain even when a soldier later settled far from York County. Cross-search North Carolina counties and Overmountain communities.
