wctdoc1943 on “Relatives of William Pierce Thornton of Spartanburg, SC”
William Pierce Thornton 1849-1936) was my great grandfather and lived in the Cross Anchor section of Spartanburg County and kept a journal for many years (excerpts published in Woodruff, SC newspaper several years ago). I would love to know if that journal still exhists and where it might be located. I would also like to know if there is a Thornton family bible or other “private” records of the early Thorntons in Spartanburg County. I know that Wm. P. Thornton’s father was named Samuel and was born in South Carolina in 1800 but have been unable to find who his parents were (his mother is noted to be from Ireland on 1880 Federal Census) and father from South Carolina. Is anyone aware of any private records that might contain information about Samuel Thornton (1800-1895) or his parents, or are there any knowledgeable relatives or historians in the area? Thank you for any assistance.

wfchrisx29 on “The Graves of Henry M & Anna Turner Smith”
The obituaries of my Grandparents, Henry Marvin Smith and Anna Turner Smith, lists their burials in Glendale Cemetery in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Have made two visits trying to find their graves. As a young boy, I vaguely remember going to their graves and they were at a church. The cemetery was on the left side of the church when you drove up to the front of the church. We have been to every cemetery that I could find and identify on the internet with any success. Trying to determine specific dates.
They were buried June 15, 1946 (Henry M Smith) and August 23, 1933 (Anna Turner Smith)
mwarner on “Worner/Warner Family”
1790 census lists Reubin Worner in Spartanburg with 1 male child under 16, 1 male child over 16, and 3 females. I would love to learn more about this family. My ancestor was John Thomas Worner, born 1786-1800 in South Carolina, per family belief; I’d love to know if he might be the son under 16 in Reubin Worner’s family. John Thomas Worner died in Winn Parish, Louisiana, in 1879. His son was David James Worner, who fought in the Mexican War. After his death, his widow applied for his war pension. When the first check arrived, the US government had changed the name from Worner to Warner. Her half of the family took the Warner spelling from then on, while descendants of his siblings still use the Worner spelling in Louisiana (Winn Parish and Columbia Parish areas). Any info on Worners in 18th century or early 19th century South Carolia would be greatly appreciated! My email is: maxkwak@roadrunner.com
